PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIONS OF AMLA:
Amla is a potent scavenger of free radicals. The origins of majorities of the diseases are mainly due to increased generation of free radicals or poor scavenging of free radicals into the body. Free radicals are the fundamental to any biochemical process and represent an essential part of the aerobic life and our metabolism. They are continuously produced by body’s normal use oxygen such as respiration and some cell mediate immune functions. Naturally, there is a dynamic balance between the amount of free radicals generated in the body and anti- oxidant to scavenge them and protect the body against their deleterious effects. Therefore, any additional productions of free radicals lead to oxidative stress which may result in tissue injury and subsequent diseases. Vitamin C in Amla accounts approximately 45-70% of the antioxidant activity. It shows strong free radical scavenging activity and prevents oxidative damage of the body.
